Now that I know what to search for, I've found this:

http://documentation.apple.com/en/finalcutpro/usermanual/index.html#chap
ter=106%26section=6%26tasks=true

Curiously, if I select "anamorphic" within the FCP sequence
settings QT Player X plays back the exported movie at the
desired 1280x720 px with neither cropping nor scaling.

Indeed. Probably because there is no clean aperture for it.
Although QT X player is easy to hate. I do hope they promote it out of
its "rush job for SL" status soon. It is important, because it is the
only way us humans get to see next generation Quicktime without all the
legacy baggage.

PS You do know the Final Cut Studio manuals are available as PDFs?
Follow your nose from http://www.apple.com/support/finalcutstudio/
Hit the manuals button under the box picture, choose Final Cut Pro from
the list on the next page that arrives and look for the pale grey "view
as pdf" whenever you get to the real manuals
http://documentation.apple.com/en/finalcutpro/
might work as a starting point too, but the do seem to be fiddling with
the displayed url, like really accomplished phishing site would.
Right-clicking on the grey pdf cuteness does give you an opportunity to
download the pdf, unlike some even more cutely fucked up sites like
canon and Adobe.
Then I'm probably teaching my granny to suck eggs?

Yes, it will be interesting to see how it develops. The older Quicktime
player was (and remains for now) one of the outstanding features of
OS X. I recall being slightly indignant when I first bought the "Pro"
version (what, I have to pay to watch movies full-screen?), but I
soon came to appreciate the versatility of the program and it was
well worth the money.

Yes, I have the complete collection, thanks (very good they are, too).

Cheers,

R.

So you are OK with suckin' eggs now! <grin>

I do wish they could find some way round the tedious " do one of the
following" bullet point arrays. I guess it the right thing to do for a
reference manual, but oh boy, it is not John Le Carr

300 of 1990 pages contain at least one of them
