From: ehsjr on 22 Sep 2009 22:53 What's a replacement for 5632 tubes? Between 208 and 440 on the plates, 2 tubes, driving a 1 hp DC motor, according to what I've been told. Haven't seen the thing yet, but I believe motor speed may be controled via the grids. The machine makes platinum ribbon. Ed

He's so much better than everyone else that before he actually gets a chance to help anyone he gets -- quite understandably -- frustrated with their stupidity and flies off the handle. Then it's just unoriginal profanity and obscure insults for weeks. What are you trying to do? Just replace the toob and get on with life, or are you trying to redesign the machine with something more modern so you can get parts more easily, at least for the next 20 years? If it's a matter of just replacing the toob and getting on with life, then you're kinda stuck with digging up the same toob type, or whatever other equivalent toob (it's a thyristor, as Phil said) you can find, and making it work. Using some other toob type means it may not work, or it may have to be modified, etc. Antique Electronic Supply has them for $60 a pop under "C3JA". -- www.wescottdesign.com

And naturally, any time you go replacing an active device in a circuit you should try to find out why it died before you apply power -- if there's something else wrong with the circuit you'll be out a quick $60, and possibly damage something else, too. -- www.wescottdesign.com |
