I owned the 400w initially which is nice 'cause you can hook it to the cigarette lighter but that's insufficient for higher loads. My Bosch hammer drill overwhelmed it. So, I bought this 800w and it can run the 6.5amp hammer drill continuously. You DO have to connect it directly to the batter but that's to be expected. That kind of current would short the lighter fuse or even cause a fire in the dash. I've had no problems with this thing at all. I love it!
