From: 21SanDiego on 17 Mar 2010 01:51 Need some help please....I cannot Check for Updates in Windows Vista, keep getting Error Code 80070490. I've read almost every thread, and have tried running the System Update Readiness Tool which didn't work. I also tried Reinstalling the Vista DVD....it doesn't give me an option of simply clicking 'Upgrade', as it tells me to download a newer version than what I have (which I can't obviously)...instead the only option is to reinstall and lose all my programs, files, etc instead which I don't want to do. I'm using a Dell XPS M1530 laptop (intel core duo, 2.4 ghz, 4 GB memory, 32 BIT operating system)...running Vista 07' with SP1. If you could help, you would be a life savor! Very frustrated at the moment.

Do you have any "security" related applications installed (like Symantec Norton xy)? If so, please state the full name and version of that application(s). You may give *completely disableing* these applications temporarily and run Windows Update afterwards a try. Bye, Freudi
From: 21SanDiego on 18 Mar 2010 13:57 Hi Freudi, I only have one 'Security' program running besides the normal Window Security Center: Trend Micro PC-Cillin Internet Security (3 Versions listed) Program Verson: 14.70.1014 Engine Version: 8.911.1001 Pattern Version: 6.931.00 Does that help? Do I need to turn this off? Thanks for your help! Do I need to turn this off? Yes, that may at least be worth a try. Sometimes it's even neccessary to *uninstall* these kind of stuff *completely*. Make sure you've enabled Windows Firewall as soon as you deactivate or uninstall 3rd party Firewalls (like the ones included in "Security Suites"). Bye, Freudi
