We are adding w2k8 r2 DCs to along with w2k3 DCs. Eventually will
decomission all w2k3 DCs. But our desktop are still XP SP3. Is there an
update admin tools I can use to manage AD, DNS, DHCP running on w2k8 r2 from
an XP machine? Or I have to upgrade to Win 7?

Thanks.

Hello chris,

Install the adminpak from Windows server 2003 SP2 on the XP machine. Most
of them should work to connect with the Windows server 2008 DCs. I have heard
about problems with the dnsmgmt.msc, that you have to check.

Hello chris,

Forget to mention that to complete manage the Windows server 2008/ WIndows
Vista GPOs you have to use at least Windows Vista/Windows server 2008 machines
with RSAT intalled.

The W2003 tools work but do not give access to things like Group Policy
Preferences. Either use W7 or remote desktop to W2008R2 to manage the systems.
