I am running Slack 12.1 and am trying to get garmintools 0.9
to run. It makes OK, but when I run garmin_get_info it
doesn't see the device. I can't access ttyUSB0 either.

I have tried enabling every USB option that I could
think might affect the problem, but no.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Does /dev/ttyUSB0 exist?

Try to preset "/dev/ttyUSB0" (and perhaps some other devices) in

/lib/udev/devices

"Ubuntu" - an African word, meaning "Slackware is too hard for me".

There is an entry in /dev for ttyUSB0, but if I try to cat
from it I always get No Such Device. I don't have a
/proc/usb either. I installed libusb, but lsusb always
gives me nothing.

I don't think I can enable anything else in the USB kernel
options. I'm not using the kernel configuration that came
with Slack, I trimmed out the stuff I didn't want.

I'm not familiar with the entries in the directory /lib/udev/devices.
Here is what an ls -l shows me:

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 Jul 8 03:50 core -> /proc/kcore
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 Jul 8 03:50 fd -> /proc/self/fd/
prw------- 1 root root 0 Nov 20 2005 initctl|
crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 1, 3 Nov 20 2005 null
crw-rw---- 1 root root 108, 0 Nov 20 2005 ppp
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 Jul 8 03:50 stderr -> /proc/self/fd/2
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 Jul 8 03:50 stdin -> /proc/self/fd/0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 Jul 8 03:50 stdout -> /proc/self/fd/1
crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 1, 5 Nov 20 2005 zero

Should there be some entries
defining usb devices? If so, what would they be
