Hey Guys

I spent the last 2 hours installing virtualbox on squeeze and have
run into a little problem. I can't add users to the vboxusers group
because ther isn't and vbox'anything' group. The Debian wiki doesn't
help, probably because it is out of date, so wonder how others got it
working.

I have these packages installed

+++-==========================================-==========================================-====================================================================================================
ii virtualbox-guest-additions 3.0.10-1
guest additions iso image for VirtualBox
ii virtualbox-ose 3.0.10-dfsg-2
x86 virtualization solution - base binaries
ii virtualbox-ose-guest-source 3.0.12-dfsg-1
x86 virtualization solution - guest addition module
source
ii virtualbox-ose-guest-utils 3.0.10-dfsg-2
x86 virtualization solution - non-X11 guest utilities
ii virtualbox-ose-guest-x11 3.0.10-dfsg-2
x86 virtualization solution - X11 guest utilities
un virtualbox-ose-modules <none>
(no description available)
ii virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6-amd64 2:2.6.30-4
PC virtualization solution for Linux 2.6 on AMD64
rc virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.30-1-amd64 2.6.30+3.0.2-dfsg-3
PC virtualization solution for Linux 2.6.30 on AMD64
ii virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.30-2-amd64 3.0.12-dfsg-1+2.6.30-8
VirtualBox modules for Linux (kernel 2.6.30-2-amd64)
ii virtualbox-ose-qt 3.0.10-dfsg-2
x86 virtualization solution - Qt based user interface
ii virtualbox-ose-source 3.0.12-dfsg-1
x86 virtualization solution - kernel module source

I am currently upgrading all of the 3.0.10-dfsg-2 versions to the
sid 3.0.12-dfsg-1 versions in the hope that they will fix things.

<rant on>

In the not to distant past, packages didn't go from sid to testing
unless they worked. Buggy maybe but they at least ran, to a point.
That seems to have changed in the last few months. Is that a new
policy? If so, maybe testing should be to 'could-not-fixed-in-sid'.

<rant off>

TIA

Wayne

I installed virtualbox this afternoon and it worked like a champ. I just
followed the instructions at
http://www.howtoforge.com/installing-virtualbox-3.0-on-an-ubuntu-9.04-desktop
I installed 3.1 instead of 3.0.x and I'm running Ubuntu. Don't forget to
change "jaunty" to "squeeze" in the repository entry.
