I got qpopper running. I found a LaunchDaemon on
http://sage.ucsc.edu/~wgscott/xtal/wiki/index.php/Running_a_Mail_Server
that works. I was able to do "telnet `localhost` pop3" and got
+OK Qpopper (version 4.0.19) at robert-peirces-computer.local starting.
When I entered quit, I got
+OK Pop server at robert-peirces-computer.local signing off.

I think that is pretty much what used to happen under 10.4.

The problem now is I still get the same message from Apple Mail on
loclahost that it is refusing to allow a connection on port 110.

When I click to Get Mail a panel eventually comes up asking me to enter
a password for localhost. It says it rejected my password, except the
password is correct!

That seems to be an Apple Mail problem at this point. Any experts out
there who can tell me what I need to do?

This went away overnight. Don't know why.
