Apparently the screen won't scratch even if you try really hard, with really scratchy things. Is that true? If it's made of glass, it could be; you'd need to take a file or a diamond to it to find something much harder. -- Peter

How do you know though? I have put my iPhone in my pocket with my keys many times and it hasn't caused a problem (unlike the first gen iPod nano). I have also dropped it face down a couple of times (including onto gravel, where it damaged the side metal bit). -- Woody www.alienrat.com

The glass is hard, but it *can be* scratched without too much effort. I've had a screen protector installed since then, changed regularly. The decent ones (which are usually the cheapest Dealextreme.com ones) don't feel any differnent to a naked screen, or behave any differently. Perhaps they were finding the oleophobic coating got peeled off with the protectors? I'd imagine it's just a Stevie J decree though.

Fair point, but I'm not about to put it to the test. Thing is once scratched, you can't unscratch it, so I err on the side of caution.
