You could try reinstalling all the above (not kde of course).. Or, if you're really adventurous than download the source and try compiling/building. Watch the result of './configure' to see what you are missing, if anything. Watch to see if 'make' completes... You could even install in the default location (/usr/local) and try runnig this version IF it compiles. This is all just to determine what the problem is on YOUR system. Could be the uninstalling/reinstalling with the package manager MIGHT fix things and is probably easier than compiling. Just a thought... http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/ Also see this: http://audacity.238276.n2.nabble.com/1-3-10-beta-Unable-to-open-Portmixer- td4123435.html Seems you're not alone. A search for: Expression 'stream->capture.pcm' failed in 'src/hostapi/alsa/ pa_linux_alsa.c', line: 3653 on Google returns a lot of reports of problems.. But it does work on MY system so it seems to be a individual system dependent problem.... Just take a look at those search results and you'll see...

This is the version that i have working.
