From: Larry Stoter on 6 Apr 2010 13:14 I have a small number of audio cassette tapes, almost all books or plays, which I want to convert to MP3. The ION Tape Express from Maplin at ~50 looks like excellent value. Anybody any experience of this device? Does it work on Mac? Thanks, Larry

No need really. You just need any old deck off eBay, they send a line out feed which you can plug into the Mac using a standard RCA-Jack lead. I found a Technics deck on eBay for under a tenner, and it did the job just fine. There's loads of old HiFi decks to choose from, Technics, Yamaha, Akai, Nakamichi and Denon are good for a start. -- Andy Hewitt <http://web.me.com/andrewhewitt1/>

Extremely good quality and no need to go and buy something else. Yes the WMP cost 300 back in the days when 300 was "quite a bit" but it's lasted well.

I remember one before that- rather larger; the first of the pro-grade Sony cassette recorder/players. Only marginally portable, I got it from BBC stores to do some job or other. Had a carrying case to include the mics. It had what the storesman described as 'a piece of neutron star' in one corner; it was quite startlingly heavy, but it worked well. -- Peter |
