A couple of years ago I used Amadeus Pro to copy a bunch of audio
cassette tapes. The other day I found a few more tapes and tried to
copy them. I don't necessariy recall everything I did the first time
but now I can't get it to work. It seems like it should only be
necessary to run a cable from the output of the tape deck directly
to the Line In jack on the iMac and set the Preference to use that
input. I also tried the iMic USB interface (which is what I had used
before). No audio detected by Amadeus Pro either way.

This is the same iMac I used before, the only change being that now
it's on 10.6.2 and I've done an upgrade or two to Amadeus Pro (which
I've been using to clean up some recordings of old LPs).

Are John Wolf and I the only ones having problems with audio input
in 10.6?

Don't know about 10.6.x yet since I have problems with the DVD. It won't
load in three different DVD drives, so I'll have to go down to the store
to get a replacement...

But regarding the Amadeus, you need to set the input in both the 'Sound'
prefs pane and in the Amadeus prefs settings. - ...And I ofcourse
presume that you have put the cable from the tapedeck in the 'Play Out'
sockets. - Some tapedecks are quite nasty naming the LINE OUT signal
sockets as 'REC OUT' instead...

You may also need to adjust the 'gain' in the 'Sound' prefspane, cause
some MC decks only have an output of 100mv and not the more normal
150mv. Set the gain slider to apprx. 50% and then check the signal on
the Amadeus meters to see if they begin to change color toward red. If
they do, then decrease the gain level rather than decreasing the Amadeus
level settings. This will produce less background noise from the
tapedeck.... - And don't forget to put a checkmark into 'Playthrough' in
the Amadeus recording window, so you can hear what you're recording...

Cheers, Erik Richard
