From: derekclayton on 9 Nov 2006 16:14 Thought I would get this topic started. We have about 100 AICC and SCORM compliant eLearning units running from a AICC/SCORM compliant LMS (Docent). All are built with Authorware 7 and all use the LMS KO Professional to communicate with the LMS. All work great under IE6, Firefox 1 and 2, Opera, and even Safari. But on IE7 there is a serious lag when the LMS KO kicks in (90-120 seconds) and another large (30-60 seconds) when the unit is closed and the data is saved back using the LMS KO. These lags do not exist on any other platform. AEC Consulting (the developers of the LMS KO) are aware of the issue and sent me the following... ---------- The actual issue is that IE7 is blocking some Authorware functions which are used to communicate with the LMS. In the least, IE7 is blocking ReadURL from executing (which is used for communicating with a SCORM-compliant LMS and also called to read some values from the HTM launch file for AICC, too). There may be a workaround that you can employ: - Create a separate launch HTM file - In that HTM file, build an iFrame that references your original Authorware HTM file ---------- This appears to be a work around that uses a hole in the new security. Whether Microsoft will eventually seal this hole, or they will fix above issue to allow the communication is anyones guess. If anyone can add to this, let the discussion begin.
From: Mark Henry on 9 Nov 2006 17:47 Derek, The problem is with IE7's stiffer security model. It's not allowing Aw to communicate through ReadURL (which is what is used to call the JavaScripts in the SCORM API). The only workaround we have (for now) is to load the HTMl file with the AAM reference into another HTML file through an iFrame or FRAME panel. Of course, your other solution is to simply say that you're not going to support IE7 until M$ fixes it.
