We have an address here that we set up for people to email requests to. I
set up a rule to automatically have the server respond to the sender with a
message so they know we received it along with some other details in there.
We have a group of people who all work on those requests and to notify them
of the emails received at that other address I want to include the internal
group address as a BCC. I'd rather have it in the BCC section and not the TO
or CC because I don't want our internal group email address floating around
out there.

When I enter the group email into the BCC section I get this error when I
try to apply the rule, "One or more rules could not be uploaded to exchange
server and have been deactivated. This could be because some of the
parameters are not supported or there is insufficient space to store all of
your rules."

I know the issue is not insufficient space, that is the only rule and I
think after exporting the rules the file size is a whole 4kb. I'm thinking
I'm missing a setting on the exchange server somewhere to allow BCC, but I
can't find it.

If the BCC just can't work, is there a way to set up an alert that only
emails the internal group and does not automatically respond to the sender?

The Outlook client is 2003 and the exchange system manager is 6.5.7638.1.

How many rules do you have? Exchange 2003 and older have a limit of 32kb
storage space for rules- this is about 10 in Outlook 2003.

I knew that question was coming because of all the research I've done and
already answered that in my 3rd paragraph. I feel like I'm missing a setting
on the server somewhere, but I don't even know where to begin looking.

I don't think the exported file size matters - if the rule is large, it
could take up a lot of space.

Export the rule and use the /cleanrules command to clean both the client and
server then import the rule. See if it works. It's possible the client rules
are out of sync with the server rules, especially if you've ever switched
back and forth between Outlook 2003 or newer and Outlook 2002 or older.

From: pritchj on
I read on another forum to export the rule to find out the size, so that's
where I got that idea. I already tried the /cleanrules command, it still
doesn't work. I even manually added the rule back in instead of just
importing it and it still gives me that error. I don't see how the rule can
be so large, all it says is "place a copy of this email in a specified folder
and auto-respond with a specific message." I have way more rules on my work
email account than that and don't have any issues.

The thing that makes me believe it is not a size issue is because the only
difference between the way I have it right now and the way I want it is
having the address that is in the TO field in the BCC field. Why would that
impact the size of the rule? Either there is nothing in the TO field and
something in BCC or the other way around. It isn't like I'm adding anything
to the rule by changing the field I put the address in.

This client is Outlook 2003 and is the only client with the email address
set up on it, so there is no switching around between versions.

This should be simple, it's driving me crazy.
