From: Carlos on 30 Dec 2009 14:55 Julia, Try resetting IE to its factory defaults. Go to Tools, Internet Settings, Advanced Options. Click the lower button in that tab. I'm using IE7 on XP (Spanish) right now so I have tried to figure out the clicks for IE8. From: Bobby Johnson on 30 Dec 2009 14:59 When newly installed the default browser on all versions of 64-bit Windows (AMD64 & Intel EMT64) is the 32-bit browser and it works fine with all the popular add-ons. It takes some fiddling around to get the 64-bit browser set as the default. So, when you installed Windows 7 64-bit on your nice, shiny, new NB, the default would have been the 32-bit browser. Can you think back and remember anything you would have done to change that to the 64-bit browser? Someone suggested installing 32-bit Firefox, making it your default browser, then opening 32-bit IE8 and answering "YES" when asked if you want it to be your default browser and clearing up problems as you describe. You can uninstall Firefox if you desire after trying this. Mozilla is ;-) But sadly some fancy Websites (Silverlight stuff a.o.) require IE. That hasn't been a problem so far with all my other machines (32bit) which run XP - only this one gives me trouble, I guess I will try to reset or re-install IE - this is annoying. thx
From: Bobby Johnson on 31 Dec 2009 08:21 Silverlight for IE only works in the 32-bit version. There is no Silverlight for 64-bit at this time. And, I am not sure how you would re-install IE. I am not aware of any standalone install packages for Win 7. That way, websites designed by folks who don't know that there other browsers out there and that don't recognize anything but IE should render properly... -- TOM - Vista, CA - USA
