Are you saying that when the backup runs at some point it specifically calls the SQL VSS Writer service to backup SQL rather than sticking with Windows VSS? I'm not sure how to check the size of the database. However it doesn't occur everyday. Most of the time when the backup (Windows server backup) runs it's all fine. When I went into MS SQL Management Studio Express I dug my way to find some sort of logs. I found something under Management>SQL Server Logs. Now, whenever my backup fails because the person responsible for swapping the drives removes it before the backup finishes there is a new log in the SQL Server Logs section that day. I can't view the logs as the only option I get is to Refresh. If I disable the SQL VSS service will that affect whatever backup is set up in SQL? Thanks yaro
