How difficult is it to fire up Yast and install Pan and start
using that?

Yet I don't think that the OP, with his very ostensible addiction to
Microsoft Windows, would fancy using slrn right away. A GUI newsreader
such as Pan, KNode or Thunderbird would probably be a more obvious
choice. ;-)
