From: Ignorant.not.stupid on 14 Mar 2010 22:54 I'm a transfer from the PalmOS, which seems to be easier than basic WM 6.1. Apparently, there are several replacements for the original UI. Can you direct me to a forum or rating site, to help me decide which of these to install? Samsung i760 hand-me-up (from son) THANKS!
From: Beverly Howard on 15 Mar 2010 10:47 While there are a number of options (others will probably post their favorites) a couple of considerations; >> I'm a transfer from the PalmOS << From experience, I would strongly recommend that you spend some time with the default apps and options as part of the transition learning experience. While it's natural to want to get the interface as familiar as possible, adding apps will both hide the options that may be of value as well as introduce additional complications. This forum is excellent to get fast input for beginner questions. There's a tremendous amount of default power, but, much of it is pretty well hidden from new users. To answer your original question, best option is to google for either POCKETPC <your need> or WINMOBILE <your need> Hope this is of value, Beverly Howard PS: HELP is context sensitive... tap START/HELP any place you have questions and you stand a good chance of getting the answer you need.

I use SPB Mobile Shell for may today screen on my LG Expo with WM 6.5. Works on older versions as well. It's finger friendly and has many customizations. You can switch back and forth to the original Today Screen any time. Only drawback, it costs $29.95, but has a 15 day free trail http://www.spb.com/products/mobileshell/

I use a program called "Launcher." It doesn't completely replace the "Today" screen but it almost does and it gives me a very easy way to launch all my favorite programs. By default it will let you launch all your programs but I set it up so it only displays my favorite programs. I add a directory to the /launcher directory that is a copy of \WINDOWS\Start Menu\Programs and then it gives me an easy way to launch all my programs and it doesn't clutter up my today screen very much. BTW Launcher will only display programs in the \launcher directory and one directory under the \launcher directory so I use file manager to get any sub folders in the \launcher\programs directory. You can read more about the "Launcher" program and where to get it here: http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.pocketpc/msg/37f0fcf773d3cbc9 On the "Start" menu there is a list of "Recent Programs." If you like keeping your list of "Recent Programs" clear then "Launcher" will do that and you can clear out any programs that made it into the "Recent Programs" with: http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/raj/ClearRecent.html Oh ya you might want a quick and dirty registy editor too. I use a program called regeditce for that. I tried others registy editors but they were more than I needed.
