From: Tyler Durden on 17 Feb 2010 21:55 what would be the best practice for partitioning a exchange 2003 server with a 500 gb storage? 1. system (20 gb) 2. pagefile (4 gb) 3. logs (? gb) 4. db (? gb) thanks.
From: John Oliver, Jr. [MVP] on 18 Feb 2010 13:55 How many users and size of database would be helpful. From: Ed Crowley [MVP] on 18 Feb 2010 15:06 If you're talking about a single drive, there's no reason to create separate log and database partitions. You really ought to have those on separate physical drives from each other for recoverability in the event of a failure. -- Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems." .. If the your database an logs are on the same physical set of disks performance will suffer. This is why I asked, are you using any RAID? Preferred to have Databases on RAID 10 or 5 partition and Log Files on RAID 1. I doubt for just 30 users you will see any significant performance issues on the same physical disks but I would monitor it. -- John Oliver, Jr MCSE, MCT, CCNA Exchange MVP 2009 Microsoft Certified Partner "Tyler Durden" <abuse(a)antispam.org> wrote in message news:eHC83oPsKHA.5036(a)TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > about 30 users, db expected to be 10gb maximum per user. > > > "John Oliver, Jr. [MVP]" <jcoliverjr(a)hotmail.com> wrote in message > news:80B6BFBC-5C39-48FF-B2D1-E327D35DE369(a)microsoft.com... >> How many users and size of database would be helpful.
