From: Bryce Alan Katz on 3 May 2005 12:28 Hey all, I just ghosted an older 10GB hard drive to a larger 40GB drive in order to facilitate a move to a more robust system. Now when the drive is installed to the new machine (new motherboard, etc) the system hangs at boot. Booting to Safe Mode shows that AGPCPQ.SYS is the driver where the problem occurs. Any suggestions for recovery?
From: Michael Niehaus [MS] on 3 May 2005 23:10 It's probably failing with the file after AGPCPQ.SYS, which would be the HAL. This problem typically indicates that the new computer needs a different HAL. The only supported mechanism for changing the HAL is to reinstall Windows, but I'm sure someone will volunteer more "creative" fixes. -Michael Niehaus Senior Consultant MCS US Centers of Excellence - Deployment AOS mniehaus(a)microsoft.com This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. From: Bryce Alan Katz on 6 May 2005 09:29 I was afraid of that... Thanks for the input! Michael Niehaus [MS] wrote: > It's probably failing with the file after AGPCPQ.SYS, which would be the > HAL. Just do a repair reinstall. No need to do a clean install. However, that's not really indicated here. What tool did you use to copy the drive? -- Walter Clayton Any technology distinguishable from magic is insufficiently advanced.
