This is taken pretty much straight from the Wine mailing list. Granted, it usually applies to running games under Wine, but those folks have a lot of trouble with ATI cards of all ages and almost none with nVidia if they use the closed-source proprietary drivers. -- martin@ | Martin Gregorie gregorie. | Essex, UK org |

PcSpecialist will do PC's with no operating system, spec'd to your own requirements on a RYO basis using web site menus. My Toshiba laptop (from Amazon) came with Vista, but later I installed Mandriva in a dual-boot arrangement (though haven't used Vista for months so will use the space for other things now the laptop's out of warranty). Have travelled around Europe with laptop using hotel etc. WiFi facilities with no problem with either Vista or Linux. -- /\/\aurice (Replace "nomail.afraid" by "bcs" to reply by email)

If you wanted a copy, they would charge you for it, or if it is free, ask for 5000 copies so that you can resell them on Ebay. There is a price to pay and Dell have rolled this into the laptop price. This is malpractice, and I would love to see Dell get fined massively for this. Mark. -- Mark Hobley Linux User: #370818 http://markhobley.yi.org/

My first laptop was SiS-based. The X driver for it had only recently become available and I had to use the vesa driver for a while, but apart from that I didn't have any problems. -- TH * http://www.realh.co.uk |
