From: NatureMuzic on 16 Aug 2008 10:46 Hi, All of a sudden, the CHKDSK for "Error Checking" starts arbitrarily & don't know why or how to fix it so it only checks when I manually ask it to, as I don'r like waiting 45 minutes when I first log in, unless I plan it that way. Any ideas are appreciated! Dallas
From: ju.c on 16 Aug 2008 11:06 To reset chkdsk to default behaviour: Open the Run box and enter: cmd In the command window type: CHKNTFS /D Some info: How do I keep CHKDSK from running on every start up? http://ask-leo.com/how_do_i_keep_chkdsk_from_running_on_every_start_up.html ju.c "NatureMuzic" <NatureMuzic(a)discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:C2B2CE3C-FEC2-4812-A5E4-FE89BF1A981B(a)microsoft.com... > Hi, > > All of a sudden, the CHKDSK for "Error Checking" starts arbitrarily & don't > know why or how to fix it so it only checks when I manually ask it to, as I > don'r like waiting 45 minutes when I first log in, unless I plan it that way. > > Any ideas are appreciated! > > Dallas
From: MowGreen [MVP] on 18 Aug 2008 15:49 It may be running because the HardDrive is experiencing 'issues', too. NatureMuzic, suggest you run the HD diagnostic tool of the manufacturer of the drive to find out if this may be the case. Continually cancelling chkdsk in this situation may lead to a complete loss of data down the road. From: Dallas on 19 Aug 2008 15:56 thanks ju.c & will consider that, as arbitrarily as it happened, it has since quit doing that ! Thanks MowGreen, sorry but I am a neophyte at this & not sure how to do what you suggest. But I didn't cancel the CHKDSK, I would just let it truin it's course. But it has stopped doing this for the time being at least. Not sur why it started happening & not sure why it quit. I'll be checking back - thanks again "MowGreen [MVP]" wrote: > It may be running because the HardDrive is experiencing 'issues', too. > > NatureMuzic, suggest you run the HD diagnostic tool of the manufacturer > of the drive to find out if this may be the case. > Continually cancelling chkdsk in this situation may lead to a complete > loss of data down the road. > > MowGreen [MVP 2003-2008] > =============== > *-343-* FDNY > Never Forgotten > =============== > > > > ju.c wrote: > > > To reset chkdsk to default behaviour: > > > > Open the Run box and enter: cmd > > In the command window type: CHKNTFS /D > > > > > > Some info: > > > > How do I keep CHKDSK from running on every start up? > > http://ask-leo.com/how_do_i_keep_chkdsk_from_running_on_every_start_up.html > > > > > > ju.c > > > > > > "NatureMuzic" <NatureMuzic(a)discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > > news:C2B2CE3C-FEC2-4812-A5E4-FE89BF1A981B(a)microsoft.com... > > > >> Hi, > >> > >> All of a sudden, the CHKDSK for "Error Checking" starts arbitrarily & > >> don't > >> know why or how to fix it so it only checks when I manually ask it to, > >> as I > >> don'r like waiting 45 minutes when I first log in, unless I plan it > >> that way. > >> > >> Any ideas are appreciated! > >> > >> Dallas > > > > > |
