From: Roberto H. on 12 Jan 2010 12:19 I have a server with Report Server 2008 and is working good with its reports, but I need to make a change in one, I had a machine with Windows 2008 y Visual Studio 2008, the reports are stored in the file system. I changed the Windows 2008 machine by another one, and installed Windows 7, SQL Sever 2008 and Visual Studio 2008, now when I try to open the reports an error hapen: "project can not be opened because its project type (.rptproj) is not supported by this version of the application. To open it, please use a version that supports this type of project" I installed Visual Studio 2005 because I remember I did it with it, but it Say: "El archivo creado es un archivo de solución pero se creo con una versión mas reciente de esta aplicación y no se puede abrir" it means I was converted it to Visual Studio 2008 but now I can not open it, I remember I installed something years ago in the old machine to make it work, but I was trying to find it again unsuccessfully. The other way I think is if it is posible to open a report directly from the server and modify it, wich is better for me. Thank you.
From: Bruce L-C [MVP] on 12 Jan 2010 13:02 Here is the scoop. First, I am assuming you have installed the BI tools (the report designer) from the SQL Server 2008 install media. The report designer is hosted in Visual Studio. If you don't have Visual Studio it installs a version of Visual Studio specifically to host the report designer. It is only for designing reports. If you first install from the SQL Server media (note this is the bi tools I am talking about, NOT installing SQL Server or Reporting Services) and then install Visual Studio it losing the registration of the report designer tools and you have to install it. OK, to simplify to the solution. Install the BI Tools and you will be good to go. -- Bruce Loehle-Conger MVP SQL Server Reporting Services "Roberto H." <RobertoH(a)discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:05FD2537-9816-4E4F-AEB5-941C2D6A47E4(a)microsoft.com... > I have a server with Report Server 2008 and is working good with its > reports, > but I need to make a change in one, I had a machine with Windows 2008 y > Visual Studio 2008, the reports are stored in the file system.
