Can I remove Sharepoint 2.0?

From: Chris on 28 May 2010 06:23 I have SBS2003R2 Premium with Sharepoint 2.0 installed. There is another SQL server with some LOB application running from it and I plan to install Sharepoint 3.0 onto a member server. We don't use companyweb or any other aspect of Sharepoint 2.0 on the SBS plus it has SQL installed just for this purpose, all other databases which were on the SBS have now been moved to the dedicated SQL server. Can I uninstall Sharepoint 2.0 and SQL from SBS2003R2 without causing problems to any other components of SBS? I realise companyweb will be gone, but that's ok. Do other components of SBS depend on Sharepoint 2.0?

First it messes up your Wizards Your updates can fail installing, so you won't know if the update failed or installed correctly You will just cause your self BIG Head Aches by doing this.. So PLEASE DO NOT UNINSTALL SHAREPOINT 2.0 to install SHAREPOINT 3.0 In addition: SharePoint 3.0 on SBS2003 needs to be install on a Side by side installation NOT and upgrade (I repeat not an upgrade.) Doing so will put your SBS2003 server into a NON Supportable configuration! Instructions here.. From: Chris on 31 May 2010 15:48 Thanks for your reply, and I take onboard some of your points, but my post stated that I only wanted to uninstall Sharepoint 2.0, but upgrade to Sharepoint 3.0 on the SBS. I plan to install Sharepoint 3.0 onto a member server and as I will have Sharepoint 3.0 on the member server, I have no need for Sharepoint 2.0 on SBS. However, as Al Williams says, it can interfere with SBS wizards (not that I use them) so I'll leave it in place for now. We will probably apply the transition pack in the coming months so I'll investigate removing it then. Thanks again for your post. Chris Just leave SharePoint 2.0 on it... and Shut down the site in IIS and any SQL it uses trust me you will be much happier this way in the long run. if you do decide to get support.
