Or is it limited to Word Processing, just as in iWork '08?

Just Word Processing, it appears.

One saving grace (of sorts) is that Pages '09 will correctly open .docx
files. Somebody attached one of the buggers in an email to Anne this
morning. On her MBP I've installed Open Office which also handles them,
although it takes longer to fire up than Pages...

When I politely suggested to the sender that attaching .docx files was a
dodgy idea and that it would be better to send them out as .doc files,
she replied that her computer system automatically converted all
attachments to .docx. Hmmmm. I know that several years ago, when Anne
ran the place, they used to have a network based on an AS400, but I also
know that when her IT guy (an unreconstructed IBM man) was put up
against the wall and shot, the system was root-and-branched by M$
weenies at HQ, so that sounds just feasible.

Remember that Word can pretend to be an email client, so if she's in
the habit of sending mail from inside Word it wouldn't *completely*
shock me if it did auto convert stuff to docx.

It's a lie.

What actually happens is that Office 2008 defaults to saving all files
as .docx and .xlsx and .pptx, so the user has to actually think and
either change the default settings (hidden in different places in each
program and beset with "You don't want to do that, what if
something.... happens?" warnings), or do a "save as" and pick the
format each time.
