From: lionmark on 2 Mar 2010 22:42 We continuously received application errors related to SBS Monitoring, with event ID 4014. I followed the instructions found at support.microsoft.com/kb/555432 Everything went well until I tried to reinstall Monitoring. I have tried the process four times with multiple reboots, but I keep receiving the message: An error occurred while installing Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE). Rerun Setup, and retry installing Monitoring. Again, I have retried multiple times, all with the same result. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I'd like to see the failed setup logs of MSDE. Probably failing on a pre-requisite. Just go to %temp% and sort the files by date. The newest files are probably the error log files. -- Leonid S. From: "Robbin Meng [MSFT]" on 5 Mar 2010 03:04 Hello, Thanks for your post and others' input. Regarding the error messge " Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine - Installation operation failed." , you may run the following command to reinstall MSDE (Check paths): C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\Monitoring\msde\setup.exe blanksapwd=1 /i "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\Monitoring\msde\setup\SqlRun14.msi" INSTANCENAME="SBSMonitoring" DATADIR="C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\" TARGETDIR="C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\" /L*v "C:\MSDE_SBSMonitoring.log" Then, use Registry Editor to delete the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\SmallBusinessServer\Monitoring HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\SBSMonitoring After all of the above commands running successfully , please go to Monitoring and Reporting and create a test wizard to see if the issue is solved. BTW, please also check your server SSL certificate as for some similar issues may occur when the SSL certificate is expired. If so, rerun CEICW to create a new noe. Hope this helps.
