I've found (only) two other people posting this problem, here and another
forum, but niether has gotten a definitive response. Hoping to do better.

The story is that I've embedded my Flash movie on a PPT slide and it plays
fine, but it won't let me save the file. When I try I get this error message:

"! There is an active inserted or linked object that can't be saved
automatically. Please close the object first."

Nothing is visibly running and I get this message even if I add the Flash
Object and try to save the file without playing it. If I delete the Flash
Object from the slide Powerpoint saves the file without a problem. If I
deselect the "Embed Movie" box or set the embed value to "False" in the
properties chart the Flash movie doesn't run at all (which is fine I guess,
since I'd rather embed the file and make a package out of it anyway). Any
idea why I can't save my Powerpoint file with a Flash presentation embedded
in it? If not, then does anyone have any idea why the Flash movie won't run
if I link to it instead of embedding it?

I'm in a bind a need a solution a soon as possible. My thanks in advance
for any assistance offered.

Thanks for the response, but I'm afraid the link didn't really have an answer
for me. Apparently this isn't a common problem. Still trolling for an
answer... anyone?

Does this happen with any Flash object, or just this one particular Flash
object? (I assume it's a SWF we're talking about, right?)

How did you embed it?

I fixed the problem. After comparing my machine with others that didn't have
this problem, we found that Although I had the latest Flash plug-in I didn't
have have the latest Active-X controls. We updated my machine with Active-X
9 and now the presentation saves just fine with the swf file embedded. I
hope this helps others who are getting this somewhat perplexing error message.

Good luck!
