From: uncle beer on 20 Feb 2005 14:45 There appear to be more than six of us with this or similar problems, based on the number of posts in this newsgroup. Considering the complexity of fixing the KB886903 problem MS obviously has not carefully thought out at least these two updates. I use newsgroups regularly but a number of people I know who use computers have no idea what a newsgroup is or that MS offers free support for update problems. Then there are the people who have no idea what a Windows Update is, but that's another subject! =================== Thank you. Very well put. Considering how EASY Microsoft slips these updates into our computers, this particular fix can be considered pretty daunting. Aside from that, all the contents of the fix mentioned did NOTHING on my machine: .net couldn't be deleted or updated, and the registry also couldn't be 'zapped' either. Why doesn't one of our esteemed MVPs suggest to higher-ups that an all-encompassing fix be devised, or at least alert one of his superiors to the fact that an update has gone terribly wrong? Oh well.... Yours truly, Uncle Beer

They care - and we (MVP's) care more, for the simple reason that we get it in the neck from guys like you when things do go wrong. All we can do is feed back data that we may get, in the hope that fixes are forthcoming. None of the MVP's is employed by MS (that automatically disqualifies them), but all are people who care greatly about what MS calls the 'End-User Experience' - which is why we come here in our own time and at our own expense to help out those who ask for assistance. Since you seem intent on bitching, rather than being constructive or actually asking for assistance, that's my last word in this thread. > > > > Yours truly, > Uncle Beer > > >
From: jonb on 20 Feb 2005 17:55 I'm willing to wait 10days for a new auto update fix, but I don't want a complicated umpteen step manual fix. This computer has received auto updates for 3 yrs and I have never had a problem until this one 7days? ago. My only complaints are I don't have the critical update in the meantime and the extra 1min shutdown time. If MS wants to send me a $1000 check, I'll sell/ship them my whole computer box for analysis! Anyone else #me too# on this? First, you don't know that it is only six. It is only six *that you have seen* that have posted here. Second, you don't know it's been installed 60 million times. Tosser.
