SQL 2005. No problem logging directly into the server with sa
credentials. However, can't authenticate using same credentials in
SQL Mgmt Studio - receive error message 10061 - TCP provider - No
connection could be made because the target machine actively refused
it.

I get the same error when trying to set an ODBC to the machine.

This machine had SQL 2008 installed and uninstalled on it, then SQL
2005 installed. Could that be causing the problem?

Much thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks Umi. It turned out to be a port issue that we looked at about
20 times and missed until this morning.
