From: Jack's stuff on 4 Mar 2010 19:05 I've checked this newsgroup and find nothing related to deleting email messages in Outlook. I also did a search and found confusing info that didn't seem to address the problem. I use Outlook Express so I'm not familiar with the difference using Outlook. My Son called and said he is unable to delete any messages using Outlook. Someone suggested rebuilding the .pst file using scanpst.exe and scanost.exe but we can't find the location of these files. It said they were in the Office folder but we can't find either file. Hope someone can help.. Thanks

Thanks > Outlook Express and Office Outlook have nothing in common. Please have your son post a followup in this thread with details of his concern. Specifically, what version of Outlook he is running, which Windows, how the accounts are setup (IMAP, POP3, Exchange), when was the last time this worked. If he is using an Exchange account, administrators can limit rights of what users can delete. -- Leonid S. You have to state what version of Outlook he's using and exactly what happens when he tries. > Someone suggested rebuilding the .pst > file using scanpst.exe and scanost.exe > but we can't find the location of these files. The SCANPST.EXE program is located in different places depending on the versions of Windows and Office. For a U.S. English version of Windows and Outlook 2003 or earlier, you can find the program in %CommonProgramFiles%\System\MSMAPI\1033, which is usually a hidden folder. For Outlook 2007, the file is in %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office\Office12 for 32 bit versions of Windows and %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Microsoft Office\Office12 for 64 bit versions of Windows. However, since you don't say exactly what the symptoms are, it's not possible to tell whether or not running SCANPST will help you. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook]
