DNS is not the issue. If it were, it couldn't resolve the host. Try
traceroute and report back here.

Try adding the following lines to your /etc/ppp/options and, or relevant
options file:

defaultroute
replacedefaultroute

Hope that helps!

hmmmmm... well you said DNS is automatic.

You can't ping but you can traceroute. Weird.

ifconfig is finding ppp0 but something else isn't.

In slackware, I would start over and use netconfig and
manually, using the two DNS's that you were given herein
enter them in /etc/resolv.conf

do the setup again, drop to a terminal window and run
ping, traceroute and ifconfig. I presume you can cntrl-alt-F3
or whatever and get a terminal window from KDE.

It is not that uncommon condition that one can connect to the
ISP but not get beyond that. Try pinging the ISP's connection
IP that you get from ifconfig. here that was 209.247.5.129 Then try
pinging a world IP and a world dotcom.

Your routing may not be set up correctly. Do a route -n and
a "netstat -r -n" once up to get a feel for that. To set your routing
correctly you may have to do some reading on networking.

I say try "wvdialconf" and "wvdial" first - I've had experience where
wvdial knew what to do about strange ISP setups for dial-up. Your running
Sid, so I assume you can apt-get install the above :)

Cheers

on thing that i come to think of is wheter your default gateway is updated
correctly, i have always needed to change manually. this is how:
1. after the connection is made kppp leaves a window with two buttons,
Dicsonnect and Details. Press Details.
2. In the window presented you will find Remote IP.
3. Copy the Remote IP-number (called REMOTE_IP below).
4. in the terminal write the following:
route del default; route add default gw REMOTE_IP

5. try to browse the internet now.
