From: Mark Sutheard on
First, some background: We have SBS 2008 w/SP2 installed, our Exchange 2007
is at SP1. This is a new server which we had a 3rd party migrate from our
old SBS 2003 server. Things were running fine, but the Exchange services
would not start automatically on reboot. After researching, I found an MS
knowledgebase article which included a "Fix it for me" for this problem.
After running it, the Exchange System Attendant service will not start, with
a message saying "It has been removed or marked for deletion." Exchange
seems to be running with no problems though.

Now, here is my problem. We have a general email account for accepting
resumes, which is set to autoforward to UserA. I need to disable the
autoforward, but the Exchange Management Console won't let me disable it.
When I try to save my changes, I get a "set-mailbox" error: "An Exchange
2007 server on which an address list service is active cannot be found".
After doing some googling, the only answer I can find is to start the System
Attendant service, which I can't as noted above.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Hello Mark,

Thanks for your post.

I noticed that the SBS server has now with Exchange server 2007 SP1. However, what Rollup Update did you apply? Have you applied the latest Rollup update for Exchange server 2007 SP1 or
Exchange server 2007 SP2? If not, please first install these updates.

I suspect there is any legacy Exchange issues since the domain migration. So, please run SBS 2008 BPA tool to perform a compete scan and try to fix all the detected errors. If the issue still occurs,
please provide us with more information, such as BPA error report and Event ID error messages for further research.

Hope this helps.
