From: luv2bike2 on 22 Apr 2010 14:00 I am trying to copy folders and files from my users local computer to the file server and I am getting the following error message when I try to copy: Erroor copying file or folder --top bar of the box Cannot copy (file name): Access is Denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protect and that the file is not currently in use. 1) the server is not full there is over 500 GB available. 2) it is not write protect since we save files to that server all the time. 3) the file is not currently in use. the only things that are open are 2 Explorer windows, local computer explorer which has the folders/files and the server where i want to copy the folders/files to. The users directory on the file server has Modify/Read and Excute/List folder contents/Read/Write Permissions. so i am confused as to why I can not copy the folders/files over. Local computer - Windows XP SP3, all patches are up to date. File Server - Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition SP 2 This issue is with all of the users that I am trying to copy their data from their computer to the file server and each of the users permissions are the same. Why can I not copy the folders/files over? Thanks, -- Thank you,
From: ruic on 22 Apr 2010 16:11 Windows file server permissions are confusing. You need all of those permissions for the folder but you also need permission to propagate to the child objects (files).
