From: damind on 2 Jul 2010 11:37 Thank you in advance for any help. I cannot enable Shadow Copies on my C:\ volume but I can on my E:\ volume. My problems started after pushing the BackupExec 2010 agent to this server. It was running the BE 12.5 agent previously. Now it does not have either BackupExec agent installed. Windows 2003 Ent. 64bit SP2 with terminal services (VM on vSphere 4) 52 gig (27 free) C volume 8 gig E volume I am able to create snapshots using VMware. The VMware tools are installed but the Volume Shadow Copy Services Support driver is not installed. vssadmin list writers lists Writer name: 'System Writer' Writer name: 'Event Log Writer' Writer name: 'Registry Writer' Writer name: 'COM+ REGDB Writer' Writer name: 'MSDEWriter' Writer name: 'WMI Writer' Writer name: 'IIS Metabase Writer' (all are Stable with no error) Only one provider is listed: Provider name: 'Microsoft Software Shadow Copy provider 1.0' Under Local Disk (C:) Properties, Shadow Copies tab, when I click Enable for the E: volume it completes in about 2 seconds. When I click Enable for the C: volume, it errors out after 10 seconds with: Failed to create a shadow copy of volume C:\. Error 0x80042306: The shadow copy provider had an error. Please see the system and application event logs for more information. In the Application log I get 2 errors: Event Type: Error Event Source: VSS Event Category: None Event ID: 12310 Date: 7/2/2010 Time: 8:19:59 AM User: N/A Computer: NS-APP Description: Volume Shadow Copy Service error: The shadow copy could not be committed - operation timed out.
