From: Bigweed on 17 Feb 2007 14:05 Hi all I have tried five times to install the update for WMP10 to WMP11, however each time it fails and I cant figure out why!!! I currently have Windows Media Player 10.00.00.4036, I have checked the Windows Update website to see the error code given when it fails, and it is always the same - 0xC00D2B00. I use Windows XP Pro, and have installed all of the critical and security updates as at today (17/02/07). Can anyone help please???? Thanks Bigweed
From: GaryM on 17 Feb 2007 14:19 If any updates continually fail to download or install via Windows Update, it's always a good idea to locate and manually download for the software then perform a manual install. You can download WMP11 for Windows XP from here... http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/download/download.aspx "Bigweed" wrote: > Hi all > > I have tried five times to install the update for WMP10 to WMP11, however > each time it fails and I cant figure out why!!! From: Bigweed on 17 Feb 2007 18:18 Hi GaryM I have tried this, but when I double click the downloaded file, I keep getting the error message that it is not a valid Win32 application!! Am I doing something obviously wrong?? One strange thing I did notice was that, even though the website says the files is 25.2Mb in size, on my hard drive it shows up as 19.9Mb??? I re-downloaded it a few times, but each time the size of the downloaded file was about 20Mb in size. I also made sure each time that the download did not stop part way through, or something similar, but it all seemed to download fine. Can anyone please suggest what may be the problem?? Thanks Bigweed "GaryM" wrote: > If any updates continually fail to download or install via Windows Update, > it's always a good idea to locate and manually download for the software then > perform a manual install. From: GaryM on 17 Feb 2007 19:47 The invalid Win32 application message is because the file is incomplete. I just downloaded the 'wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe' file using the original link I posted and if I right-click the file in Windows Explorer and look at it's properties, the file size is as follows... - Size: 24.5 MB (25,755,448 bytes) - Size on disk: 24.5 MB (25,755,648 bytes) The file runs fine and I get no invalid Win32 application error message. It sounds like something is preventing the complete file downloading to you PC which is maybe the same reason that Windows Update can't install it either. If you have any download managers on your machine I suggest you disable them and try downloading again. You could also try again using a direct link to the file below... http://download.microsoft.com/download/0/9/5/0953E553-3BB6-44B1-8973-106F1B7E5049/wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe If that doesn't work then try finding a similar (or bigger) size file on the internet to see if you have a general problem downloading any file which is over a certain size.
