OpenOffice.org Writer looks in the list for every word you type. If the word is in the list, it will be replaced with the corresponding word. This is convenient for abbreviations and words that are often misspelled. 1. Click Options for autocorrection⦠2. Click the Replace tab if it's not already selected. 3. Select your language or [All] (selecting [All] makes your abbreviations work for all languages, which makes sense in this case). 4. You have two fields for text: âReplaceâ and âwithâ. Enter the word you want to replace in the âreplaceâ field, let's say âclâ. 5. In the âwithâ field, now enter â£. If you don't know how to type it, copy it from here and paste it to the âwithâ field. 6. Do step 4 and 5 for the rest of your symbols. 7. Click OK. 8. Try your new abbreviations out. In the above example, now type âclâ (without the quotes, of course) and then hit Enter or space. âclâ will now automatically be replaced by ⣠(the clubs symbol). Here are some more symbols that you might want to use: ^ - â --> - â != - â (1) - â (10) - â© (11) - ⪠(12) - â« (13) - ⬠(14) - â (15) - â® (16) - ⯠(17) - â° (18) - â± (19) - â² (2) - â¡ (20) - â³ (3) - ⢠(4) - ⣠(5) - ⤠(6) - ⥠(7) - ⦠(8) - ⧠(9) - ⨠(c) - © (p) - â (r) - ® (tm) - ⢠+- - ± +-0 - ±0 <-- - â <-| - âµ <= - ⩽ <==> - ⬠==> - ⨠>= - ⩾ | - â ~= - â 1/3 - â 2/3 - â 1/5 - â 2/5 - â 3/5 - â 4/5 - â 1/6 - â 5/6 - â 1/8 - â 1/4 - ¼ 3/8 - â 1/2 - ½ 5/8 - â 3/4 - ¾ 7/8 - â dgc - â degr - ° dgf - â ht - â¡ inf - â kohm - kΩ cl - ⣠Mohm - MΩ mu - µ ncb - n©b ohm - Ω P| - ¶ pi - Ï pml - â° dm - ⢠sp - â sigma - Ï sum - Σ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: discuss-unsubscribe(a)openoffice.org For additional commands, e-mail: discuss-help(a)openoffice.org --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: discuss-unsubscribe(a)openoffice.org For additional commands, e-mail: discuss-help(a)openoffice.org

From: "J.J. Vastiau" on 24 Jan 2010 10:04 Agreed, but that is cumbersome. Moreover, I use Veldane and there the facility is not available. I will give the other solution a try and keep you posted. Â And there are lots of special characters in > the Wingdings Font. But the WingDings font has its special characters at the places of other characters, so switching font will also switch character. If you can find the character you need in the original UTF-8 map I think using them is âbetterâ than using a special font. But well, that's perhaps only my opinion.
