From: JD on 25 Jul 2010 16:49 Hi Experts, Right now I am completely exhausted. If anyone wants a real challenge, please try the one below and persuade these two computers to connect. TIA =============================================================================== Win2K & Win 7 Setup Details for LAN A Workgroup was setup - Box 1 with Win2K, and Netbook with Win 7 limited, and am trying to connect them. Box1 has a folder called Share1 and NetBook has a folder called Share. At present both computers can connect to the Internet but not to one another. Connecting up The ADSL modem is connected with a Cat-5 cable via its DSL socket to the other DSL socket on the phone wall plate. RJ-45 cables connect the LAN port on the modem to the Internet port on the router, and Port 1 on the router to the NetBook. A Cat-6 cable connects port 2 on the router to the NIC in Box 1. [This is where a picture is worth 1000 words] ---------------------------------------------- Box1 Setup Details and Data for LAN "To find other computers running earlier versions of Windows, and to use file and printer sharing on any version of Windows, open these ports: UDP 137, UDP 138, TCP 139, TCP 445, UDP 5355" The TCP 445 is available for file and print sharing on Box1. "To find network devices, open these ports: UDP 1900, TCP 2869, UDP 3702, UDP 5355, TCP 5357, TCP 5358" None of the above ports appear in my firewall. ============================================================= Box1 C:\Documents and Settings\V>ipconfig/all Windows 2000 IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : Box1 Primary DNS Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcast IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : Yes WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : sonic.net Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 2: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : USB-USB Network Bridge Adapter [Please note: USB-USB is not part of the network now.
