have you tried the 32 bit version of google chrome.

I would say it is a
dependency problem IE no /lib64/libz.so.1

Possibly because it's set to re-wrap quoted text and it gets it wrong.

He's using the same newsreader as I am, although the first thing I did
was to turn off the word wrap, and especially the re-wrap of quoted
text. I then do my own word wrapping at about column 72, except for
links and text that exceeds 72 columns but needs to retain the layout.
