From: artk on 30 Jul 2010 12:57 My computers no longer have RS-232 type serial ports ( say what? ) so I am trying to connect my hp48g+ with Conn4x using a Prolific Serial to USB converter. No luck. The "Connect Using" list box will only display "Auto". Doesn't give me a choice of ports to try. Grrr. The Prolific converter maps to COM8. I've tried changing that to COM1 or COM2 but the Device Manager warn that other programs are using those ports. Anyway clicking the "Connect" button gives "Error (No Device detected. Check the cable connections and the calculator)". The parameters are set correctly on the 48 - yes WIRE is set. I've tried it with a null modem adapter in the cord and not. What up?
From: haaaTchoum on 30 Jul 2010 13:37 Hello, Some PC motherboard still have an RS232 on it, but are sold without the specific cable. Just as an example, the asus p7h55-m (for intel i7) have both COM and LPT port ! I bought an usb to RS232 cable like you, and with the same unsuccess. Since I put this little connector (cf http://cjoint.com/?hEtHBtxUUI), everything is perfectly working. bye "artk" <artkennedy(a)clearwire.net> a crit dans le message de news: e92a9c95-4a21-453b-bdd8-15dc423e7718(a)x18g2000pro.googlegroups.com... > My computers no longer have RS-232 type serial ports ( say what? ) so > I am trying to connect my hp48g+ with Conn4x using a Prolific Serial > to USB converter. Doesn't give >me a choice of ports to try. I am using a Prolific usb to serial converter with no problems at all with Conn4x. (Windows 7, 64 bit). If you go to Device Manager, under Ports (COM&LPT) do you see the Prolific device? Is it set to 9600, 8 bits 1 stop, HARDWARE FLOW CONTROL? Set the calculator to 9600 as well. If Conn4x doesn't show the Prolific's COMx port then it is likely not working in Device Manager or the Prolific driver is not working. >The "Connect Using" list box will only display "Auto". COM8 is fine. Conn4x will recognize up to COM12 or something like that. If it is not listed, then something is wrong with the Device Manager I suspect. Usually when people have trouble with these converters it is after Conn4x sees the proper COM port and then the timing on the device is off causing failures during the connect. > I've tried it with a null modem adapter in the cord and not. A null modem adapter should not be used. Do you have any other serial devices you could hook to the Prolific for testing? I´m using a USB to Serial cable, and sometimes (don´t know why) the PC parameters change automatically. I have to reset them manually to get the connection.

Your settings may change if you use a different USB port than the previous time. I have three USB ports on my laptop, and plugging the adapter into each USB port results in different COM port mappings. |
