From: Amelia on 13 Jan 2010 20:17 Any ideas on how to create an Organizational Breakdown structure in MS Project 2007? Thanks.
From: Dale Howard [MVP] on 13 Jan 2010 22:05 Amelia -- Sure. Try the following: 1. Click Tools - Customize - Fields. 2. In the Custom Fields dialog, select the Resource option. 3. Click the Type pick list and choose the Outline Code item. 4. Click the Rename button. 5. Enter a name for the field, such as OBS, and then click the OK button. 6. Click the Lookup button. 7. In the Edit Lookup Table dialog, click the + button to the left of the Code Mask section. 8. In the Code Mask section, click the Edit Mask button. 9. In the Code Mask Definition dialog, select "Characters Any ." for as many levels as the levels you need in your OBS. In #9 above, your challenge is to determine how many levels you need in the dialog. For example, if you wanted to create the following organizational chart, you would need four levels in the dialog: Corporate Business Unit Department Team 10. In the Code Mask Definition dialog, click the OK button. 11. In the Lookup Table section of the Edit Lookup Table dialog, build the list of items in your OBS, indenting items at the appropriate level of indenture. 12. Click the Close button. 13. Click the OK button. Hope this helps. -- Dale A.
