From: Here In Oregon on 27 Feb 2010 15:29 I have been under the hood with Reaper now for five days and am quite happy with this DAW in general. I have installed two instances of EZ drummer and am triggering my V drums with what seems like 0 latency (0.7ms). I have set up a 16 track template and can record takes from a myriad of sources including my Gigadaw. All of my wiring issues are resolved and I have not had to hire anyone to get me up and running so that is cool. I also do not feel quite as stupid as I felt last week when I realized my "post its" fell off and my printed wiring tape all got smudged with age and I could not tell how my gear was wired. I have had *zero* crashes and the response that I get while recording is like something I have never seen nor *felt* before. This new computer I built along with Reaper *feels* like I have absolutely no baggage. Not even sandals, wallet, sunglasses or a Shady Brady hat. It is a beautiful thing; kind of like recording naked. However, Perfect Space is not perfect for me anymore. It does indeed cause a little latency in *real time* and it just isn't as nice as my outboard reverb units that I have. Vintage channel is tied to Sonar and won't work and the other plugs that came with Sonar, Reaper and even in some instances Waves seem second rate so I am in plug-in drought. Sort of stuck on a desert oasis if you know what I mean. To correct this I will be purchasing either the UAD-2 Duo (two processors) or the UAD- 2 Quad. I am interested in the Plate 140, the new EMT 250 or both for reverb. The LA2A and 1176 for compressors along with a Neve, Pultec, or Harrison for EQ. For delay I was thinking the Cooper Time Cube and the Roland RE-201. Now many people use multiple UADs in computers especially with the earlier cards. Cool thing is one UAD-2 Duo has five time the processing power as the original UAD and the Quad has ten X the power. Now I come to find out this morning that all of those extra graphic card slots on my new motherboard can take a UAD card so I could theoretically put three of them on her but my RME fiber optic light pipe mother and daughter cards eats up one slot. Anyway, one Quad would be ample for my needs but I am on the fence with real world applications whether I could get by with a Duo. Another cool thing I discovered today is that the new UAD cards have a low latency monitoring switch that enables near zero latency for most all of their plugs for input monitoring. Anyone care to comment on their UAD cards and their favorite plugs. I know Neil Rutman and Ted Perlman use them and get great mixes. Others? Any comments would be most appreciated. HIO - Proverbs Ch.18 Vs.17 Any story sounds true until someone sets the record straight.
