I noticed in the setup section of the WinDDK samples that in addition
to the latest setup support tools for driver install/uninstall (DIFx,
DPInst), devcon is included as well.

So far, devcon seems to work fine for me, so I am not sure whether it
is worth it for me to switch right now to DPInst.

I vaguely remember reading something about DPInst supporting Vista
while previous tools don't. Is this true?

I am missing the "history" part of the evolution: Does DPInst
*replace* devcon, or is it simply a fancier (GUI etc.) of the same
API?

Thanks,
Don

When it comes to driver installation DPInst replaces Devcon.exe. This page
summarizes all the virtues of DPinst

Thank you, Eliyas. I just needed this little clarification before
delving into the material - and you just provided it. Thanks.
