Do you think if I changed the BIOS settings for the SATA controllers to legacy IDE mode it might get the install disk to boot like it does on the P4's with PATA drives?

If it worked you're in business, if it doesn't then you know it's not the drive, but perhaps the mb bios setting, or the windows upgrade version. -- Jan Alter bearpuf(a)verizon.net

But the 64 bit disk will still not load either way. I want to install the 64 bit system. My rig is fully capable. Any ideas why the 64 bit disk wont load in 32 bit XP or at startup? Do I need to install the 32 bit system and then immediately "upgrade" to the 64 bit?

I just finished reading that any 32 bit OS (XP-Vista-7) can not run 64 bit files and that to upgrade from Windows 7 32 bit to W7 64 bit requires a clean install also. So I need to run the 64 bit disk at boot in order to get to the goal. Any ideas why my BIOS won't read/boot a 64 bit disk? AMI BIOS rev 0801 for Asus P6T
