From: Virgil2U on 12 Dec 2006 21:26 I have a Samsung TS-H522U Writemaster 16X DVD burner and just got a new Gateway computer system that I had installed this into and set the drive on cable select on the same cable as the current DVD/CDRW drive that came with the system. The problem I have is that I can only burn DVD-R media at 4X and not at 12X as the drive is capable of, Should I set the drives up as master and slave so that I can then burn properly? The DVD-R media I have is 16X so it should be no problem to burn at 12X but am not allowed to by either DVD Decryptor or Nero. --------------= Posted using GrabIt =---------------- ------= Binary Usenet downloading made easy =--------- -= Get GrabIt for free from http://www.shemes.com/ =-
From: BigJim on 13 Dec 2006 00:29 could be the media you are using, I have some verbatium disks rated at 8x but will only burn at 4x. I think it is also the burners problem. When I use them in a different burner they write at 8x. Chances are, this is a problem with the writing process, and not a cable datarate problem. I have plenty of problems with media on my burner, and selecting the max burn rate, even with rated media, gives me coasters. Quite a disappointment really. If the disks will read back at full speed, then the data is travelling over the cable at full speed. Paul

Many Samsung DVD writers natively run in 'silent' mode which may restrict your speeds. I am not really sure if this applies to both read and write but might be something to look into. I have a TSST corp DVD R/W that is a rebranded Samsung Light Scribe drive that is very sensitive to the type of media I use. It is a 16x burner but with some media will only burn at 4x or 8x even though the media is 16x. TDK media seems to work best. I have no idea who makes the media for TDK, but I would assume it isn't TDK. Ed
