!!!!!I HAVE NOT TRIED THIS!!!!!

For all I know it's full of adware/viruses, but someone was asking about
this type of screensaver:

Last time I checked one of these, it had an adware component silenty
installed with it. YMMV

Worse yet, when you go to the download page for the screen saver,
there's a huge download button and underneath it, it says, "Clicking
this Download button starts InstallIQ, it manages your installation."

That means you can't even download the setup file and run a scan on it.

Guess I'll pass on that one.

If a person has a good graphics card though, one of the two I see listed
here (page is in Japanese) might work for them:

posted through them.

No ad, CD, commercial, cripple, demo, nag, share, spy, time-limited,
trial or web wares OR warez for me, please. Adobe Flash sucks, DivX rules.

It's actually a bit more sinister than that. You can download the file
without starting the install, but extracting the resulting 'marine2.exe'
leaves three more files... autorun.txt, resource.0000.pkg, and
wrapper.xml. resource.0000.pkg is the "meat" of the thing, and you can
obtain a file list which includes the actual screen saver executables,
but it's password protected. And there's evidence in the .xml wrapper
that indicates the installer phones home for the password, as well as to
"register" the software. All without notifying you.

So this inability to even virus scan the screensaver before installation
is by design, not a side effect of the publisher's desire to make the
installation painless for neophytes.

Wow, great detective work! I'm not sorry I posted the link--hopefully it
will keep people *away*.
