From: Craig on 4 Oct 2008 13:54 We have multiple accounts in a Quicken File (Checking , savings, IRAs etc.) Almost all of them are linked to their various financial institutions and info is downloaded when I log on. This has worked quite well. I am having a problem with one of the accounts. This particular account (an IRA) has a lot of missing information in it (such as cost basis in it and I want to delete it and re-download everything. I can't delete the account in Quicken. Should I go through and delete every transaction and re-update? This will be painful as there are a lot of transactions to delete. There are no links in this account with any other accounts in the Quicken File. I have hidden the account and tried to add a new Quicken File. I choose the proper financial institution and it shows me all the accounts but won't let me do a new one with an account on the list. From: "thecreator" thecreatorof on 4 Oct 2008 14:27 Hi Craig, It is easy to delete an Account in Quicken, because I just did it, from a Backup Copy, so I did not lose anything. Don't hide the Account that you want to delete. You need to delete all Scheduled Transactions affecting a particular Account, before Quicken will Allow you to delete the Account. Open Quicken. From the Summary Tab under Banking, click Options on the Left for the particular Account Type you want to delete. Click Account List. Next, click on the Account you want to Delete. Click Delete Account. If "This account has one or more scheduled bills or deposits which must be deleted before the account can be deleted." click OK and Open Bill and Income Reminders. Click on the Scheduled Reminder and then at the top, click Delete and click OK. Do this for each Scheduled Bill or Reminder that affects this account you want to delete. Then go back to Account List. Click on the Account you want to Delete. Click Delete Account and type in Yes and click OK. Note: You can also access the Account List from clicking at the Top, Tools then click Account List. Or use Ctrl-A to open Account List. -- thecreator "Craig" <craig.futterman(a)nospam.comcast.net> wrote in message news:lM-dnXXG07AjMHrVnZ2dnUVZ_v7inZ2d(a)comcast.com... > We have multiple accounts in a Quicken File (Checking , savings, IRAs > etc.) Almost all of them are linked to their various financial > institutions and info is downloaded when I log on. From: Craig on 4 Oct 2008 14:51 Thanks for your help. In 2009 Deluxe it is different, but I found it. What was frustrating was the same transaction must have downloaded 20- 40 times. It said I had a negative balance in that account of 3.5 million dollars! Deleteing those multiple transactions is time consuming because (as far as I can tell), you can only delete 1 transaction at a time. When I click delete, then confirm it, it takes a while for the transaction to delete. I assume that the error was during the download from the investment broker on line (of course I hit Accept ALL). :) Again, thanks Craig "thecreator" <thecreatorof Xuxa(a)comcast.net> wrote in message news:5M-dnbFkq5IOKHrVnZ2dnUVZ_tTinZ2d(a)comcast.com... > Hi Craig, > > It is easy to delete an Account in Quicken, because I just did it, from > a Backup Copy, so I did not lose anything. > > Don't hide the Account that you want to delete. > > You need to delete all Scheduled Transactions affecting a particular > Account, before Quicken will Allow you to delete the Account. > > Open Quicken. Why not? What happens when you try? What does Quicken say? > Should I go through and delete every transaction and > re-update? Even if you delete the transactions in Quicken, you will not be able to re-download them to the same Quicken account. > This will be painful as there are a lot of transactions to > delete. There is a way to delete multiple investment account transactions at one time ... but it's not clear to me that you will get any benefit from doing that. > There are no > links in this account with any other accounts in the Quicken > File. > I have hidden the account and tried to add a new Quicken File. I take it you mean you attempted to "add a new Quicken" account. > I > choose the proper financial institution and it shows me all > the > accounts but won't let me do a new one with an account on the > list. If your existing Quicken account is "activated" for downloading, you can't add that same account to Quicken a second time. John, Thanks for your reply. Here is the real problem: For reasons unclear to me, multiple entries for the same transactions have occurred during download of this 1 account (I have 23 accounts of which 12 download). In fact, there are transactions which are entered (from the download) 15-30 times (it should be 1 only for each transaction). When I click on Ctrl-D to try to delete each of the extra transactions, it takes about 12 seconds to delete each transaction and that is AFTER I confirm the delete. There are HUNDREDS of transactions to delete. You CANNOT delete multiple transactions in a register if this is an investment (according to Quicken Help). So I backed up quicken and tried to delete the account. I figured out how to do that. Quicken crashes when I try. I have tried validating the file, this takes a long time (at least 20 minutes)and doesn't help. Any other ideas? Thanks for your assistance, Craig |
