From: New Orleans Novice on 29 Dec 2009 20:24 Dell MOBO Will Not Install XP Home. Is it the MOBO or is it the RAM Memory? These same files will not install. Using 2 different known 'Good Discs'. Using 2 different known 'Hard Drives' The Dell Diag CD was created and run. No problems found. Error Message on install. These 5 files are all the same size and date on XP Proff Srv Pak 2 and also XP Home Srv Pak 2. What would you do? On very rare occasions the CD drive or installation CD is the problem, but you seem to have eliminated this possibility. Start with testing the RAM. You might try MemTest86: http://www.memtest86.com/ It's free. Then you can download and use the hard drive manufacturer's diagnostic utility to test the hard drive. If both RAM and hard drive test out clean, check with the motherboard manufacturer for any diagnostic utilities. -- Bruce Chambers Help us help you: http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/555375 They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. ~Benjamin Franklin Many people would rather die than think; in fact, most do. ~Bertrand Russell The philosopher has never killed any priests, whereas the priest has killed a great many philosophers. ~ Denis Diderot
