From: Jeff on 9 Mar 2010 13:15 Hello, I just pulled a Virtual Tape Library out of my backup environment and am now having some stability issues with the remaining devices. In working with the vendor, they suggested I check for ghost tape drives that could cause issues. Sure enough they are there. When using devcon, I run: devcon findall =tapedrive And a ton of devices like this show up: SCSI\SEQUENTIAL&VEN_IBM&PROD_ULTRIUM-TD3&REV_8711\5&AF4D2D0&0&00050E: IBM ULTRIU M-TD3 SCSI Sequential Device I then try to run a remove and get: D:\temp>devcon remove "@SCSI\SEQUENTIAL&VEN_IBM&PROD_ULTRIUM- TD3&REV_8711\5&AF4D 2D0&0&00050E" SCSI\SEQUENTIAL&VEN_IBM&PROD_ULTRIUM-TD3&REV_8711\5&AF4D2D0&0&00050E: Remove fai led No devices removed. I know I can do this via device manager, but with the number of Media Servers and devices, it would not be a fun excersize :) Thanks in advance for any help, Jeff
From: Mike [MSFT] on 12 Mar 2010 17:03 It seems that devcon can only remove devices that are currently present. One option would be to modify the devcon source code to also remove non-present devices (the source is available on MSDN). The change would be one simple flag in the code and recompile. -Mike "Jeff" <jeffrey.m.wall(a)gmail.com> wrote in message news:ca30df51-fd12-4f9b-a299-9149c736d86b(a)x23g2000prd.googlegroups.com... > Hello, > > I just pulled a Virtual Tape Library out of my backup environment and > am now having some stability issues with the remaining devices.
