Hello,

I just pulled a Virtual Tape Library out of my backup environment and
am now having some stability issues with the remaining devices. In
working with the vendor, they suggested I check for ghost tape drives
that could cause issues. Sure enough they are there. When using
devcon, I run:

devcon findall =tapedrive

And a ton of devices like this show up:
SCSI\SEQUENTIAL&VEN_IBM&PROD_ULTRIUM-TD3&REV_8711\5&AF4D2D0&0&00050E:
IBM ULTRIU
M-TD3 SCSI Sequential Device

I then try to run a remove and get:
D:\temp>devcon remove "@SCSI\SEQUENTIAL&VEN_IBM&PROD_ULTRIUM-
TD3&REV_8711\5&AF4D
2D0&0&00050E"
SCSI\SEQUENTIAL&VEN_IBM&PROD_ULTRIUM-TD3&REV_8711\5&AF4D2D0&0&00050E:
Remove fai
led
No devices removed.

I know I can do this via device manager, but with the number of Media
Servers and devices, it would not be a fun excersize :)

Thanks in advance for any help,
Jeff

It seems that devcon can only remove devices that are currently present.
One option would be to modify the devcon source code to also remove
non-present devices (the source is available on MSDN). The change would be
one simple flag in the code and recompile.
