From: John Varela on 5 Feb 2010 17:07 I have only a partial description of the problem because the computer belongs to a friend who lives in another state. We were going to visit there for Super Bowl weekend, during which I was going to troubleshoot, but instead we're hunkering down at home during a blizzard. My friend has an early 17" (2GHz?) iMac. It has developed a vertical red line (more than one? I don't know) on the screen. The line moves to different places on the screen, but whether during operation or only on reboot I don't know. He has booted from the DVD and the red line(s) persist. I'm guessing a hardware problem with the GPU. If so, what's repair likely to cost? Comments or suggestions? -- John Varela Trade NEWlamps for OLDlamps for email

(We've had a series of snow storms here that interrupted all sorts of activities.) My friend checked and unfortunately his machine is not subject to any extended warranty. -- John Varela Trade NEWlamps for OLDlamps for email
