From: soundgarden_0303 on 28 Feb 2010 23:17 Hello, I just want to ask since I don't use Windows messenger, Outlook express, Blue tooth and have disabled Telnet service and Message queing service can these vulnerabilities be exploited if I don't install security updates for these even though I have them disabled or don't use them?
From: Leonard Grey on 1 Mar 2010 00:37 How can we guess what updates you're talking about? On the chance you're referring to Windows Update: You need to install all updates labeled Critical (in Windows XP) or Important (in Windows Vista or 7.) For other updates, the choice is yours. About your second question: Malware can exploit an unpatched vulnerability whether you use it or not, and even if you think you have disabled it. --- Leonard Grey Errare humanum est soundgarden_0303 wrote: > Hello, > > I just want to ask since I don't use Windows messenger, Outlook express, > Blue tooth and have disabled Telnet service and Message queing service can > these vulnerabilities be exploited if I don't install security updates for > these even though I have them disabled or don't use them? > >

If you *have* the programs, you should keep them updated.
